  02: Realization: Chapter one Gilbert crouched on the sand next to a small stream that ran along the eastern border or Germany and he scooped up a handful of water to have a drink. He looked across into the land that was Germany. He came here for answers and though he didn't know what to expect he was going to get those answers. Why had West betrayed him? Why would Ludwig do that to his older brother? The questions rang in Gilbert's head like bells as he stepped carefully over the stream. The rumor was that West had allowed and even helped that misfit Alfred dismantle Prussia's awesome nation. How could that be true? That's what he came to
